Dr. Zenker has lived in Oakville since 1950. He has always been interested in a wide variety of animals - he was well know in Oakville thorough the 1960's and 70's for his alligator and menagerie of other strange pets. He graduated in 1966 from the University of Toronto, with a specialty in Zoology, and graduated from the University of Guelph's Ontario Veterinary College with a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine in 1970. He went back to school to upgrade his skills and received a Masters of Pathology from the University of Guelph in 1986. He also obtained an MBA from the University of Western Ontario in 1993. Dr. Z loves traveling and scuba-diving. He also breeds Blue&Gold, Green-Wing, and Scarlet Macaws. At the present time his only real "live in" pet is his calico Cornish Rex cat "Zoe".
Melanie
Sigetich D.V.M.
As a 1998 Ontario Veterinary College graduate, Dr. Sigetich is excited to apply the newest technical skills that she has learned and is interested in meeting all of our clients. After graduation, Melanie backpacked around Africa for 2 months. Her favourite memory is of canoeing the Zambezi River, dodging hippos and crocodiles. She enjoys skiing (water, cross-country, downhill) and is learning how to snowboard. Melanie lives in the outback of Campbellville with her rabbit, Cleopatra, and her Weimeraner who is named Gryphon.
We are currently looking for another veterinarian to round out our staff!
Jen
Natasha
Sandra graduated from McMaster University in 1997 with an Honours B.A. in Classical History. She has been with Burloak Animal Clinic since July 1999. Like many of her co-workers she has a strong interest in exotic care and medicine, specifically avian medicine. In addition to spending her hard working hours at Burloak Animal Clinic she is currently working towards her second B.A. in Art History.
Sandra's duties include seeing that everyone is notified when they require a vaccination or other follow-up.
PETS: Eleven birds including a green winged Macaw, "Bogart", a Red Bellied Poicephalus "Duckie", a White Capped Pionus "Sadie", and eight love birds (peach faced and black masks) -oh and a wonderful husband named Bob!
Sabina
Sabina has one and half years of experience working with animals. This includes part time help at Fisherman's Cove at Marineland with the Killer whales and Beluga whales. She has been with Burloak Animal Clinic since August 2000. She is noted for her excellent organizational skills, and is also involved in part time science studies in order to pursue a career in veterinary care.
Sabina is the individual in charge of any collections or billing problems that you may have. While we do not allow billing as a policy, some situations still occur when individuals need to make special Arrangements. Sabina is the one who deals with that.
PETS: If not cleaning up after "Cielo", her blue and gold macaw, or being talked back to by "Leo", her African Gray, she enjoys hiking and playing fetch with "Yukon" her German Shepherd/Husky.
Susan
Susan currently breeds Poicephalus Parrots- Senegals, Meyers and Red Bellied under the name of "Tikibird Aviary". She also hand raises Dr. Zenker's macaws. Susan started to work for Burloak Animal Clinic in 1995 and has a special interest in birds and exotic pets. Aside from birds, she also shares her home with her husband Allan and daughter Kelly.
While Susan is usually working in reception, she is our resident "bird expert". She helps by giving clients the background on pet bird care, helps with bird restraint and does most of the hand feeding and special care for the birds.
PETS: "Chiclet and Meg" Boston Terriers, "Neeko" Siamese cat, "Chloe and Phoebe" Senegal Parrots, "Tiki and Taylor" Macaws, "Roxy" Guinea Pig and 28 other parrots.
The primary motivation for this web site is to help owners of exotic pets find a clinic and group of veterinarians who are knowledgeable and comfortable treating other than "mainstream" types of pets. We also want to help by providing links to sites which might be of assistance to those who have some of these pets.
If you have any sort of medical emergency, contact your local veterinarian or emergency clinic. If you have questions of a general nature or would like to make an appointment, please e-mail or telephone us and we will try to help you.
