How Do I Know Which Prevention is Best for My Pet?

There are many options when it comes to prevention for your pet against fleas, ticks and mosquitoes. Some preventatives are available in flavoured tablets and chews, while others are topical treatments. Coverage can last anywhere from one month to 3 months. Our Veterinarians and Pet Health Consultants will help you select the product that best suits you and your pet's lifestyle. Take a look at what some of our own team members recommend.

Margaret’s Product Recommendation

To keep my furry friend protected against harmful diseases from ticks, fleas and heartworms, my first choice for prevention is Advantage Duo. This convenient pack consists of Advantage Multi & Advantix II and is an easy 2-step topical process each month. In addition to providing excellent protection it has exceptional value!

Advantage Multi prevents heartworm disease, kills adult fleas and treats common intestinal parasites. Advantix II kills mosquitoes and fleas in all life stages, and has the added benefit of killing ticks often before they attach to help reduce the risk of potentially fatal diseases such as Lyme disease. Within 20min of application Advantix starts working!

With this combined protection I can feel relaxed knowing that I am giving my pet complete  protection while being easy on my pocket book. Ask us today if this product is right for you and your pet. It was the best decision I made to look after my best friend.

Gails’s Product Recommendation for Aila and Mo

Spring brings warm breezes, flowers… AND… fleas, ticks and mosquitoes! Prevention is key to keeping our dogs happy and healthy all spring, summer and fall. We have a large property and my dogs, Aila and Mo have lots of space to run, explore and enjoy their outdoor time. We also love to walk on trails, in conservation areas and on roads near home. For me, the best way to choose which prevention is best, is to look at our lifestyle; where we live, what we do with our dogs, how convenient it is and is it easy to give.

Here are my choices for Aila and Mo:

Bravecto and Ticks: are everywhere and ticks are becoming more and more prevalent. I use Bravecto. Bravecto is a tasty pork liver flavour chew that is conveniently given only ONCE every 12 weeks. This is my 2nd year using this product. It is easy to give, the dogs love the flavour and I only have to give it 2 to 3 times a season depending on weather conditions.

It only takes 1 infected mosquito to bite your dog. Don’t be fooled into thinking it can only happen outside. Mosquitos can easily get into your home. My choice of prevention is Heartgard. It is a beef chew given monthly and my dogs love the flavour. To help me remember when to give it, Heartgard has an app that helps keep me and the dogs on schedule!

Family members and other pets can be in close contact with my dogs immediately after the chews are given. This is an important feature for me since my grand-doggies, Stella and Dozer often come for visits and sleepovers!
