A GENTLER APPROACH TO VETERINARY CARE

Low-Stress Handling for Pets

For a fearful or anxious pet, how veterinary care is delivered can matter as much as what needs to be done.

Members of Burloak’s veterinary team have completed hours of training in specific Low Stress Handling methods designed to reduce stress and create a safer, kinder, more comfortable veterinary experience.

CARE THAT RESPONDS TO YOUR PET

What Low-Stress
Handling Looks Like

Low Stress Handling and Restraint was developed by veterinarian and veterinary behaviourist Dr. Sophia Yin as a smarter, kinder and gentler way of working with veterinary patients.   At Burloak, that training translates into practical techniques that can be adapted to the individual pet.

Thoughtful Handling

Training includes specific approaches to restraint and even how a leash is held during care.

Treats & Positive Associations

Treats may be used to help create a more positive experience during an examination or procedure.

Counter-Conditioning

Techniques can help pets develop different associations with handling and medical treatments.

Medical Wrapping

Low Stress Handling training also includes appropriate medical wrapping techniques

An Individual Approach

We work with you and your pet to understand their specific Low Stress Handling needs rather than assuming the same approach will work for every animal.

CARE THAT RESPONDS TO YOUR PET

A Kinder, More Comfortable Vet Experience

Every pet responds differently to veterinary care.

With specific Low Stress Handling training and an approach that considers the animal in front of us, we work with you and your pet to make necessary care safer, kinder, and less stressful wherever possible.
